With the increasingly poor state of the U.S. economy the country is experiencing an upsurge in the number of immigration deportations. The present rise in the number of immigration deportations might largely be due the increasing number of illegal migrants in the country.

Economic downturn or not, America is increasingly attractive to people from diverse cultures and backgrounds all over the world because of her great history and values. Despite the current economic troubles the average American still has some of the highest standards of living worldwide. This makes her a “dreamland” for many people seeking new and better standards of living from what they had previously known. There is relatively little civil unrest, political instability and violent conflict on U.S. soil relative to what can be seen in many other parts of the world.

The U.S. only wants people who can improve its current economic conditions and not those who would be a liability to the already strained welfare system, thus making room for increasingly tougher restrictions on prospective emigrants. These restrictions are mostly through increased processing fees, regulations and eligibility requirements.

Unfortunately these requirements screen out poorer prospective immigrants who often feel they have no other choice but to try to enter the country illegally. This only makes them vulnerable to immigration deportation, often after settling down financially and socially into their new environment.

The term “immigration deportation”, though familiar to many people is still quite vague. Legally and according to immigration law, it means the formal removal of an alien from the country when the alien has been found removable for violating immigration laws. These immigration laws are often linked to common criminal laws and felonies. Immigration deportation is ordered by an immigration judge, after a hearing, once the alien has been found guilty of breaking an immigration law. No additional punishment is imposed or contemplated. This process is now called “removal “under current laws. The individual to be deported is then escorted to the nearest transportation headed for their home country.

The agency responsible for enforcing detentions and immigration deportations in the United States is known as ICE (Bureau of immigration and customs enforcement). This function was formerly the duty of the immigration and naturalization services.

Any person who is not a U.S citizen can face immigration deportation either they are in possession of a valid visa or not.

There are three broad classes of Aliens who are most subject to immigration deportation.

•   People who enter the United States illegally or without documentation from the U.S customs and border protection and other relevant agencies. These groups of people come into the country across land borders.

•   Migrants who enter the country legally usually on a non immigrant visa are documented upon entry into the country, but then decide to stay, without permission, beyond the original time given to them by the authorities.

•   Foreigners who are green card holders but have somehow violated the conditions under which the green card was issued.

A green card holder can be deported if they committed marriage fraud, falsely claimed to be a U.S citizen or has a criminal conviction or arrest.
